Kajaks --> Kajaks Athlete Profiles --> Kajaks Masters Athletes --> here

A Kajaks member since January 2002, my specialty was the 100m, 200m and 400m, I also participated in the 800m, 1 mile (track & road) and the occasional road race of up to 10 km. For 2007 I've semi-converted to the longer sprints of 400 & 800 meters, only semi-converted as I will still compete in the 100 & 200 metre sprints. Sorry Jess I like my face the way it is to try the hurdles, if I get any uglier I won't be allowed in public.

Track Highlights:

  • 2006 (M45-49): was a quiet year as the furthest travel was to Langley for the B.C. Masters Track & Field Championships. I managed to be 3 for 3 obtaining silvers in the 100, 200 & 400.
  • 2005 (M45-49): reached 4 individual finals at the World Masters Games in Edmonton, 4th in the 100m, 7th 200m, 5th 400m & 8th 800m and was a member of the gold medal 4 x 100 relay team (M200-239). I did not attend the B.C. Masters Track & Field Championships held in Duncan this year but I did manage to achieve the B.C. Athletics gold standard for M45-49 in the 100 meters during my 1st outing of the year at the April 9th SFU meet.
  • 2004 (M40-45): a double bronze medalist (100 & 200 meters) as well as a 6th place finish in the 400m at the Canadian Masters Track & Field Championships in Calgary & the proud recipient of the Kajaks Male Master of the Year award (all the fast guys were hurt or had an off year) to go along with the 2 silvers (100 & 200) & 1 bronze (400) from the B.C. Masters Track & Field Championships in Langley.
  • 2003 (M40-45): participated in my 1st Canadian Masters Track & Field Championships which was hosted by Kajaks Track & Field Club in Richmond, B.C. My individual results were unspectacular (4th 100m, 6th 200m) however I was a member of the 4 x 100m team (Gary Kuno, Dave Provo, Bob Cheng & Neil Chin Aleong) that set a M40 B.C. record of 47.11s despite three rough transitions. I managed to win 2 bronze medals (100 & 200) at the B.C. Masters Track & Field Championships in Langley earlier in the year while ingesting a healthy dose of dust from Dave Provo & Gary Kuno.
  • 2002 (M40-45): after a few months of training & a few lost pounds, I was asked if I was going to compete at the B.C. Masters Track & Field Championships in Langley. My response was "I don't need to pay an entry fee to eat Gary Kuno's dust, I can eat it for free in practice."

Athletic History:

  • Weekend jock since childhood
  • Sports Day (Admiral Seymour School 400m champ as a 6th grader beating the 7th graders)
  • Little League (1971 league champs)
  • High School Rugby (David Thompson, always had a losing record)
  • Intramural Flag Football (BCIT, bunch of business students trying to be athletic)
  • Adult Recreational Touch Football (1999 Div 4 Fall champs, bunch of 39 year olds trying to be young)
  • Vancouver Ultimate League (disc sport, 2001 fall league C level champs), joined because of mid-life crisis (I'm still trying to be young)
  • Accepting the thinning hair (but can still grow the mullet), out with a bunch of great people with the Kajaks having fun
  • Referred to as promising young sprinter in 2002 (Thanks, George Agnew)
  • 19 straight Sun Runs & counting. 2006 was the 22nd running, I missed the 1st 1, 2 or 3 runs (can't remember back that far) but have done every one since.
  • The June 2006 edition of the Ambleside Masters Mile was my 4th straight for this event.
  • Vancouver Ultimate League, Summer league 2006 - Thursday division VI champions. (Although I qualify as a grandmaster [45+] in ultimate terms, I'm still hanging in there with the open crowd).
