February 07, 2013 - I was shocked to learn of Carey's death one month after the fact. He was a great researcher, friend and colleague. I will miss him

Ernest Wilson, Richmond, Virginia

December 31, 2012 - Carey and I worked side by side in the µSR counting rooms at TRIUMF many times over many years. I will miss his help, his courteous judgement, his sense of humor and his friendship. The obituary fails to mention that he was also a playwright, favoring topics of poignant social relevance with his lively and playful imagination. I'll miss that too. He was a good man.

Jess H. Brewer, Vancouver, British Columbia

December 29, 2012 - I've enjoyed knowing Carey on FB. I went to school with his sister and his dad was my band teacher, a father figure and great friend. My older sister knew Carey. From what I've read, he has had a very fruitful life, touching the lives of many. My sincere condolences to the family.

Becky Slate Francois, Springfield, Virginia

December 27, 2012 - I knew Carey for over forty years as professor, as department chair, as professional colleague, and as friend. I shared many of his interests and his political views -- he enriched my life.

Hans Christian von Baeyer, Williamsburg, Virginia

December 27, 2012 - To Carey's family, I met Carey in a meeting of the Richmond Humanists. I enjoyed talking with him. His insights into science and human nature were fascinating. Clearly, Carey was one of a kind. The world will miss his humor and brilliance.

Sincerely, Kim Carlton

December 25, 2012 - I am proud to say that mine is among the many lives he influenced. May the peace of the Lord be with the family and friends of Dr. Stronach.

December 25, 2012 - Dr. Stronach was very kind to me. He taught me much. I regret that there was not a chance for us to meet for another face-to-face chat since my graduation from VSU.He was brilliant and stimulated my imagination to base a character upon him in my writings. Dr. Stronach, I am diminished.I hope to see you again somewhere in the space-time continuum.

Respectfully yours, I AM William Roger Jones, Jejusi, South Korea, U.S. Minor Outlying Islands

December 20, 2012 - Joan, John, and Howard, I was very sorry to learn of Cary's passing. I have happy memories of our time together as children when Cary and his family visited our Grandmother Maynard's home in Raleigh. Cary always seemed to create a little mischief durng his visits and we both enjoyed laughing at the adults. Unfortunately I do not think I will be able to join the gathering on Saturday. However, on behalf of myself and my sister Nancy we offer our thoughts and prayers. Cary was a brilliant fellow and a real contributor to his community as well as his family. I was proud to have him as my cousin and I am sorry we did not see each other more frequently in the last years of his life.

James E. Maynard, Jr., Pinehurst, North Carolina

December 20, 2012 - Carey was a colleague of mine for over 30 years and he was dedicated to the lives of students. He was a great researcher and a great friend. My thoughts and prayers are with Joan and the family.

George Henderson, Ettrick, Virginia

December 20, 2012 - I never met Mr. Stronach in person but know his wife and his 2 sons John and Howard who both grew up in our neighborhood with our children. I am sorry to see Mr. Stronach leave this earth but he was selected to be an angel in heaven together with all our angels that left us.
