Student Talks - PHYS 409

Presentations:

• Each student will share the results of his/her Experiment with the class in a short talk.

• The oral report will be a 10-minute conference-style presentation in class, followed by 3-5 minutes of discussion and questions. (This may seem short, but it is typical of the time allocated for contributed talks at conferences.)

• All the other students will participate in the evaluation of each talk. This peer review will be considered part of your own performance, just as it would in a real conference, where others form their opinion of you based partly on the questions you ask of other speakers.

• The Talk Schedule is available shortly before each round of talks. You may be able to tentatively schedule your own talk using that form (after you login, of course) subject to final scheduling by the teaching team. Hopefully this will be ready in time for the next round of talks.

  Rules for self-scheduling (when implemented): you can only have one "slot" at any given time. You can't select an occupied slot unless you first persuade the occupant to move to an unoccupied one. Two talks on the same Experiment must be scheduled on different days to prevent "upstaging".

  While that feature is not yet working, the Peer Marking part is! Once you have logged in, go to that form and click on the name of the person you're ready to mark; a marking form will pop up to make it easy for you to record your opinions. (We keep records of who has marked what, so don't mark anyone twice!) You should also mark yourself.
