PROBLEM: Let's assume that this classroom is 30 m wide (East-West), 20 m deep (North-South) and 4 m high (floor-ceiling). Suppose we attach one end of a string to the floor in the Northeast corner and the other end to the ceiling in the Southwest corner (this is known as a "body diagonal"). We pull the string tight so it does not sag. (Another Physics Idealization.) A second string is stretched taut across the ceiling between the Northwest and Southeast corners.
Write out your solution on this sheet (use both sides if needed)
and turn it in when the bell rings,
approximately 30 minutes from now.
