Science 1 Physics Quiz # 2:

VECTORCISE

Thu. 08 Oct. 2009

Form groups of 3, 4 or 5 to solve the problem described below. Each group can have one blackboard panel to work at.

Enter the name and student number of each member of your group:

Student Number Name Student Number Name

PROBLEM: Let's assume that this classroom is 30 m wide (East-West), 20 m deep (North-South) and 4 m high (floor-ceiling). Suppose we attach one end of a string to the floor in the Northeast corner and the other end to the ceiling in the Southwest corner (this is known as a "body diagonal"). We pull the string tight so it does not sag. (Another Physics Idealization.) A second string is stretched taut across the ceiling between the Northwest and Southeast corners.

\fbox{ {\large\bf What is the angle between the two strings?}
(In radians, please!) }

Write out your solution on this sheet (use both sides if needed) and turn it in when the bell rings, approximately 30 minutes from now.
