Delayed Muonium Formation (DMF) was first observed in solid nitrogen after it was noticed that the muonium formation probability varied dramatically with temperature and was strongly correlated with the mobility of free electrons, suggesting an interaction with the only free electrons around: those liberated in the muon's ionization track!
