Dr. Nancy Cochrane joined the Birchmount Lyons' Club in Scarborough Ontario when she was a young teen, running the sprint hurdles. She competed nationally and won the national title in sprint hurdles at age 17, and then prepared for the Munich Games which regretably she could not attend due to the untimely death of her brother and father (which set back her training considerably). Nancy has established two Canadian records in the indoor sprint hurdles and outdoor sprint hurdles, which have since been challenged. Also, last summer she established a new BC record for the pole vault in the World Masters' Games in Edmonton and in the Nevada State Games in October 2005. She returned from the WMG in Edmonton with four medals: silver in pole vault, bronze in 80m and 300m hurdles, and bronze in the 400m relay. This was accomplished with a fractured and unhealed metatarsal joint in the left foot -- her lead leg. Still awaiting reconstruction surgery of her foot, she now runs soft trails and snow shoes and does cross country skiing until she completes the waiting list journey with the BC Medical Plan! She hopes to return to track and field one day, God permitting.
