5.4 Research Facilities

Please direct comments to Matt Choptuik.

The Department does not currently have any general facility for research-level computing. However, members of the Department can access the large Beowulf cluster which was recently installed in the Klinck building using CFI funds awarded to Choptuik (Physics & Astronomy), Bushe (Mechanical Engineering) and several other co-investigators in Science and Applied Science. As in other disciplines in science and engineering, high performance computing needs within the Department are likely to grow significantly for the foreseeable future. It is clear that the best way to ensure access to the requisite level of computing power is for the Department to continue to be aggressive about partnering, not only with other units within the University, but with other research institutions in BC, and across the country.
